Senior Vice President Content & Operations
Under the direction of the President & CEO, strategically oversees and manages the planning, development, implementation, integration and delivery of all content produced for use on any of WJCT’s media and service platforms.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Engages in the creation and advancement of strategic goals within budgetary requirements as directed by the CEO, BOT;
- Leads major multi-departmental content initiatives, productions and cross-platform projects while ensuring the delivery of this content is seamless to the customer and in compliance with all FCC guidelines;
- Serves as the liaison in the organization for functional reporting areas to other WJCT divisions including the Presidents Office, Marketing, Development, Finance, Administration, Community Relations etc.,
- Leads the content and technology management team;
- Develops and oversees budgets in concert with station operational goals and objectives;
- Provides leadership to strategic planning committees or task forces as assigned by President/CEO;
- Oversees all TV/FM/Web program scheduling, research and production related initiatives;
- Oversees all Technology, Broadcast Operations and Facilities related initiatives;
- Responsible for all related reporting requirements as mandated by the FCC;
- Conduct staff meetings with direct reports and actively engage in other management meetings as required;
- Represent WJCT to FPBS and other local and national Organizations;
- Effectively work with the national programming service, program consultants etc. to incorporate programs in our line-up (TV/FM/Web) that meet both audience interests and station goals;
- Other duties as assigned &/or required.
Qualifications
Education
- Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or Communications; MBA or Masters Degree in a relevant area preferred.
Skills and Experience
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in communications management to include content creation, production and broadcast distribution (broadcasting, specifically public broadcasting helpful);
- Ability to provide effective leadership to both a creative and technical staff;
- A demonstrated knowledge of today’s multi media marketplace and industry. Experience with digital media and broadcasting industry digital conversion strategies desirable;
- Ability to analyze audience research data and design and implement strategies to meet organizational goals;
- Working knowledge &/or the ability to secure a working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with: (1) the ability to develop and articulate content &/or broadcast distribution information in a variety of settings including industry meetings, fund raising events, staff, WJCT Board meetings or other public venues as invited or assigned; (2) the ability to critique and assist with the development and presentation of written or visual content proposals designed to garner support for content initiatives from foundations, the corporate sector or individual donors; (3) significant experience as an on-air talent on radio or television and/or significant presentation experience in other public venues are desired;
- A demonstrated track record of working well with colleagues, management peers and corporate Board members;
- Excellent community relations skills with a demonstrated track record of working with outside community partners and organizations;
- Strong fiscal management skills and a demonstrated record of successful fiscal project management;
- Previous strategic planning and content concept development experience required.

Associate Producer (Part-Time)
Position provides production support in the form of shooting, recording, audio editing, researching, writing and scheduling assigned projects from conception to post-production over multiple platforms (TV, Online, and Radio).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Journalism or Communications &/or equivalent work experience;
- Solid research and writing skills;
- Proficiency using computer and Microsoft Office products;
- Superior oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to edit programs and program segments for various content streams in accordance with standard industry practices;
- Ability to consistently and effectively shoot video that is technically correct and visually interesting;
- Thorough working knowledge of professional video cameras and related equipment;
- Thorough understanding of linear and non-linear editing process;
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of television lighting principles and practices;
- Working knowledge of &/or familiarity with video and audio production software to include Apple Final Cut Studio (Final Cut, DVD Studio, Motion), Adobe After Effects and Photoshop;
- Ability to gather broadcast quality audio in the field or in the studio preferred;
- Experience in the production of programs for TV, Radio and Online preferred;
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule up to 28 hours in a work week which might include early morning hours, nights or weekends.

Internships at WJCT
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: GRAPHIC DESIGN
Duties
WJCT is seeking a well-qualified intern to assist our Communications department with:
- Print pieces; all WJCT materials, including but not limited to brand identities, publications, brochures, announcements, advertisements, posters, promotional materials, etc. for our diverse offerings in television, radio, events and outreach
- Web graphics for online ads, banners, landing pages, social media, etc.
The intern will work in conjunction with the Lead Web Developer/Graphic Designer on a variety of daily tasks from maintaining our web and social media presence to larger creative projects.
Qualifications
Because our promotions are so diverse, we are looking for a well-rounded candidate who is creative, diligent, and detail-oriented. We work with all of the departments within the company, as well as publications and printers. In addition, the candidate should have:
- Excellent skills with the Adobe Creative Suite CS3 or higher (including Photoshop and Illustrator), with proficiency in InDesign and Dreamweaver preferred but not required
- Proven design skills (Please include a link to your portfolio (preferred) or sample images in your email. Unfortunately, applications without a portfolio cannot be considered)
- An understanding of HTML/CSS and other web technologies is preferred
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and meet project deadlines
